New Village Press has been a nonprofit publisher in the humanities and social sciences since 2005, best known for nonfiction books in sociology, community-based arts and culture, and participatory city design. Our interns are engaged in projects that range across the editorial, marketing and publicity, and production departments. Publicity projects are the most common. A three-month or full semester commitment is preferred. Minimum weekly time during the school semesters is 12 hours. Minimum weekly for summer internships is 18 hours. We are a small press located in the Upper West Side, New York City, publishing 10 to 12 titles per year. Our books are distributed by NYU Press.
Our unpaid internships are highly instructive and qualify for most for-credit university internship programs. Remote or partially remote internships are an option, and, although conditions may change, we currently favor working in-person. In our experience, interns learn the most from in-person training. Both graduates and undergraduates may apply. Applications open two months prior to spring, summer, and fall academic seasons.
