James Jiler
James Jiler is a writer, gardener, advocate, and co-founder of Urban Greenworks. He is the former Director of the GreenHouse Project, a renowned horticultural job-training program at Rikers Island, and former Director of community services for the Horticultural Society of New York.
Jiler is the author of Doing Time in the Garden: Life Lessons Through Prison Horticulture (New Village Press, 2006). His TedxTalk, A Sentence of Transformation, discussed prisons, gardens, restoration, and inspiration.
He is an Adjunct Lecturer in Earth and Environmental at Florida International University’s College of Arts, Sciences & Education. He lives in Miami, Florida.
