Roger Katan
Roger Katan (1931–) is an architect, artist, and teacher. His work centers on community-based design, participatory architecture, and advocacy planning.
Katan has a Masters in Architecture and Urban Design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has taught architecture and urban planning at the Pratt Institute, and Vassar College. Katan is author of Building Together: Case Studies in Participatory Planning and Community Building (New Village Press, 2014). From the late seventies to the early aughts, he worked as a humanitarian relief and development consultant for the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Bank.
Active in the art world in the mid-seventies, Katan’s kinetic sculptures were exhibited alongside Pop Art and Postmodern artists like Roy Lichtenstein. Today, he lives in Sauve, France, where he founded Galerie VP.
