Ron Carver

 

Portrait of Ron CarverRon Carver is an author, labor rights and social justice activist, and photographer. Since the early 1960s, he has fought for civil rights and anti-war movements in the United States, Vietnam, and around the world. He is currently an Associate Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies

The day Carver graduated high school, he joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and in 1968, he participated in Columbia University’s anti-war protests. During this time, he also coordinated support for the GI antiwar movement, helping soldiers tell their stories in underground newspapers. In 2016, he met Museum Director Ms. Huynh Ngoc Van during a visit to Vietnam’s War Remnants Museum, and the two collaborated to launch an exhibition about U.S. soldiers and veterans who opposed the war. Carver co-edited with David Cortright and Barbara Doherty the exhibition’s companion book, Waging Peace in Vietnam: U.S. Soldiers and Veterans Who Opposed the War (New Village Press, 2019)

An accomplished photographer, Carver’s work documenting the human faces of these struggles has been exhibited in Himeji, Japan, Taipei, Mexico City, and galleries in the United States. He is also the Executive Director and Founder of a consulting practice, Campaigns for Social Justice
