Sharon Gamson Danks
Sharon Gamson Danks (1971–) is an environmental city planner, landscape designer, and advocate for schoolyard ecology. She is the Co-Founder of Bay Tree Design and the Founder and CEO of Green Schoolyards America.
Danks works to promote ecologically healthy schoolyards for children around the country, aiming to scale up the green schoolyard movement to include school ground design, management, and green urban infrastructure. She is the author of Asphalt to Ecosystems: Design Ideas for Schoolyard Transformation (New Village Press, 2010), which received the American Society of Landscape Architects award in 2012. Danks was an Ashoka Fellow in 2017.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Green Schoolyards America joined a group of organizations to found the National COVID-19 Outdoor Learning Initiative and the National Outdoor Learning Library to help educators and their schools adapt to fresh air spaces and education efforts. She lives in the Bay Area.
