Victoria Derr

 

Portrait of Victoria DerrVictoria Derr (1968–) is an author, researcher, and artist exploring themes around green schools, critical pedagogy, and cultures of care. She is an Associate Professor at California State University Monterey Bay, where she focuses on environmental and community education through The Engagement Lab

While serving as faculty coordinator for Growing Up Boulder at the University of Colorado, Derr fostered youth in participatory planning of child-friendly cities. She is the co-author, along with Louise Chawla and Mara Mintzer of Placemaking with Children and Youth: Participatory Practices for Planning Sustainable Communities (New Village Press, 2018). 

Recently, Derr has focused her research on environmental and child care in the U.S. and Latin America. Early in her career, she ran Crane Collaborations, an organization focused on community forestry and engagement in New Mexico. Derr is also a textile artist, and she resides in Seaside, CA.
